Emergency loan helps Rochester small business survive

ROCHESTER, NY – In his first state of the county address Monday night, Monroe County Director Adam Bello announced that emergency loans to small businesses during the pandemic would no longer need be reimbursed because they were instead transformed into grants.

One of the loan recipients spoke with Spectrum News 1 on how this news will continue to help.

As the owner of a small construction company, Frank Miccoli says he was not sure Alta Bella Casa would survive the pandemic.

“There was a time when it was a daily conversation between an accountant and a lawyer if we really wanted to make it happen,” Miccoli said.

A year later there are still challenges, but Miccoli says business is going well.

“We maintain a strong backlog, and it’s fantastic,” said Miccoli. “But what we are finding is that we cannot end the backlog because there is either a hardware problem or a hardware shortage.”

They were in a Pittsford house on Wednesday installing a special type of basement window, which Miccoli says might not have been the case without the Aid Loan program. emergency to small businesses. This provided him with $ 10,000 from Monroe County.

“It gave us hope,” he said. “It was a helping hand, and that’s all we really needed, it was a helping hand.”

And when Miccoli heard that he and other small business owners wouldn’t have to pay back those loans.

“Did you want me to do cartwheels?” Miccoli asked. “Because I will. It’s fantastic!”

He says his interest-free payments would have been around $ 400 per month for the next two years. This is not a lower cost for a business of its size.

“$ 400 is… it’s half an equipment payment, or it offsets the lumber prices which are just ridiculous,” Miccoli said.

He thanks everyone who supported his business during this difficult time. He says he will be on call to give back.

“Monroe County, State, if they need anything, we’re going to roll up our sleeves and volunteer because somebody gives you $ 10,000, it’s unheard of. It’s fantastic. “said Miccoli.
